by in News
TIMSA, a division of General Dynamics NASSCO, grows with quality and efficiency at their PIMSA Mexicali facility.

Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico

Located at PIMSA, TIMSA is a company that operates in Mexicali since 1991 and is now starting a new chapter in its history due to the attraction of new contracts that will lead to a production capacity increase of up to 60%.

The company has two shipbuilding plants in Mexicali. It is a subsidiary of General Dynamics NASSCO, a global aerospace and defense company, with locations in 46 countries.

The excellence in quality, the reduction of time, increase of pieces assembled, and the consistent training and certification of its human talent have led TIMSA to a significant growth.

The new contracts obtained for the manufacturing of pieces for six ships, in a production cycle of eight years, will result in the expansion of 40 to 60 percent of TIMSA’s capacity.

“It is a complex operation since we manufacture from small pieces of few pounds to structures of 45 or 50 tons; in addition, each product is unique, it is not serial production” – explained Javier Cervantes.

The Talent Development Challenge

On this matter, Javier Cervantes mentioned the training of the human talent is a great challenge as it takes two to three months of training in welding aspects and the development of blueprint reading.

Due to continuous effort on lean manufacturing and operational excellence, the corporate has been awarded three times for Excellence in Manufacturing, and two times for Excellence in Supply Chain.

TIMSA’s two facilities in Mexicali operate under commercial and military certification with global recognition, in addition to being certified in ISO-9001, OHSAS-18001 and ISO-14001.
